TOEFLライティングのスコアを上げるためには、得点になるための評価項目を知ること

TOEFLライティングは、他のセクションに比べると得点が上がりやすいと言われています。

そのライティングで、短期間で得点を上げるために知っておかなければならないことは、

「ライティングで評価される点はどこなのか」

を必ず知っておくことです。

 

評価されるポイントを知らなければ、
どんな英文を書いたところで得点には結びつきません。

 

また、自分がどんなことに気を付けて学習してば良いか知りながら行うことは、

効率よい学習にとっても欠かせません。 

 

 TOEFLライティングで得点に結びつく

【基本的な評価ポイント3つ】を紹介いたします。

この項目を意識して学習していくと、

無駄なくスムーズにスコアUPが期待できますよ。

 

 

1.文字数/書く分量 (入門者:ライティング10点前後の人はここを気を付けるだけでもスコアがアップ!!)

まず初めに、しっかりとした英文量を書くことです。

30分で300字以上は書けるようになって欲しいのです。

ただいつも「 最低300文字」を目指して練習していても、

本番では、得点にならなかったで終わることがあります。

その理由は、

300文字の中に文法や表現の間違いがある英文が含まれていると、

文字数もどんどん削られ300文字を下回ってくるからです。

こういったことに対処するために、
まず普段から400文字以上を目標として練習することです!
 
【(×)300文字に満たないライティング】は、評価されにくい文字数です。
【(○)400文字前後】 普段の練習時は、この400文字を目指してください。

最初は、ライティングの文字数を増やすだけでもスコアは変わります。

まずは練習時に、量を狙って書く練習を行ってください!

【 米津まさきさんのライティング練習(横浜国立大3年生) 】 

大量のアウトプット→ロジカル、アイデアという順で重点的に行いました。 僕はTOEFL勉強会に入るまでライティングの練習などしたことがなかったので、かなりの書く練習量を取りました。毎日、必ず一題やりこみ、300文字を超えることは、最低基準の目標にしてください!

 

 

 

2.アカデミック用の表現法 (初級者 10~18点)

次に、書いた英文に、文法的な間違いがないかとことん確かめてください!

特に、三人称、複数形、不規則変化などは、

初級の学習者が間違えやすいポイントです。

さらに、

書き言葉/論文特有の表現を使います。

同じような単語/表現を使いすぎていないか。

また適切な副詞や書き言葉特有の文の書き始めなど表現方法を知っていること。

ライティングの文字数に加え、文法のミスを減らすだけでもスコアに変化が出ますよ!

 

【 三浦よしたか(京都大学3年生) TOEFLライティング13→22】 

ロジカルを組み立てれるようになることがライティングで一番大事ということです。もちろん前提として自分が書きたいことを表現できるように基礎的な文法や単語力は必要です。しかし何よりロジカルの組み立て方を意識することで点数が上がっていくと思います。

変な表現があると、それだけで減点対象になります。

 

 

3.論理展開/ロジック(ライティング20点以上をさらに伸ばす評価項目)

自分の主張を表現できるだけの十分な「論理性を伴った英文」になっているかが大切です。

数値例、具体例などを使い、

自分の論理をサポートできているかどうかが評価されるのです。

 

【中級者 18~23点に至るまで】

このレベルの学習者は、表現方法やロジック/論理力を洗練させることで得点がアップします。評価の高かったモデル英文を吸収し、自分のライティンに活用させてください。

 

【上級者 25~30点に至るまで】

洗練されたアカデミックな表現やロジックで得点は変わります。特に上級者は、表現やロジックの面で洗練度が上がれば上がるほど、スコア/得点も変わってきますので、ライティングに関するスキルアップと表現方法のストックを蓄積していくことに念頭に学習してください。

一番気をつけないといけないのがロジカルです。ほんと注意深くやらないと、論理性やロジックはすぐズレていきます。書いている最中にもこまめに見直しを行います。特にパラグラフの書き終わりがトピックに繋がっているかを僕はチェックしてください!

【ライティング勉強法A】 ロジックを解析し添削できるネイティブから指導を受ける

考える癖をつけている人がロジックの能力が強化されるポイントです。

レポートや論文を書く癖がついていないひとが、

急にライティングの技術が備わる訳ではありません。

また書く練習だけではなく、

書いたものにチェックを加えられ、論理力や表現力など評価される必要があります。

やりっぱ、書きっぱで放置では自分の英語力をブラッシュアップできるはずもありません。

添削にお金がかかるかもしれませんが、

ケチっていてはいくらたっても能力は上がりません。

とにかく何度も書くことが重要かと思います。書きっぱなしではもちろんだめなので、先生に毎回直していただいたのはとても助かりました。先生に添削していただいたものを丁寧に何度も何度も見直したのが良かったと思います。過去のもので赤く直してもらったところを毎回書く前にチェックします。単語と一緒で、何回も見ていると、次回以降迷わなくなります。エッセーでは、書きたいことを自由に表現できることは最低ラインだと思います。変な表現があると、それだけで減点対象になると思うので。それよりも、一番気をつけないといけないのがロジカルです。これはほんと注意深くやらないと、すぐにズレていきます。書いている最中にもこまめに見直しを行います。特にパラグラフの書き終わりがトピックに繋がっているかを僕はチェックしていました。

先生の添削をもとに、文法や表現の仕方を工夫しました。一番重要なのはいかに論理的に書くかです。先生に筋が通っているか質問したり、先輩にエッセーを送って意見を頂いたりしました。また、添削して頂いたエッセーはプリントアウトして見直し、打ち直したりリーズンを変えて再度提出したりしました。参考にした教材はバロンズです。この参考書から10トピックくらい抜き出して、文章の構成を研究し、使える構文抜き出してノートにまとめました。このノートはライティングをやる際に見直し、その文章を打ち込んで音読しました。納得できないところは、先生にも質問して対応しました。

ライティングの知識を確実なものにするただ一つの道は、実際にエッセイを自分で書いてみることのみです!書くことによって、基本的なライティングの型に加えて、自分にとっての書きやすいスタイルがどのようなものかが見えてくると思います。そして、書いたものは添削してもらいました。点数を上げるためには、やはり客観的なフィードバックが必要だと思います。TOEFL勉強会でもエッセイを見て下さる先生がいると思うので、書いたら添削をしてもらい意見をもらうのが良いと思います。

 

 

【ライティング勉強法B】 テンプレート学習(良文を読み込み、良いものを知っておくこと)

【松尾めーこ, TOEFL iBT47 →92|ライティング →27点】

ご覧のとおり27点をとっています。かなり。Integratedはご存じのとおりパターンが決まっています。リーディングに書いてあることを、教授が全否定します。だからそれを踏まえてメモをとりました。リーディングはまた見直せるので、簡単でいいと思います。また、途中でサンプルアンサーを読んで書くということもしました。説得力の強め方が分かりました。ただ、あまり見すぎると混乱するのでしぼるといいと思います。

 

【蛯名つかさ(TOEFL iBT63 →100点)】

ライティングのコツは”パクる”ことだと僕は思っています。どういうことかというと、英語には英語独特の言葉遣いだとか、フレーズがあります。それに論理展開がシンプルかつ理解されやすい、つまり採点者から評価される論理展開の仕方があります。そのためには、論理構築の仕方や言い回しを”パクる”のです。 また、論理構成として僕がもっとも参考になったのはBarron’sのライティングサンプルを10個くらい選んで、何度も読んで覚えることだと思います。 ここまで覚える事ばかり書いてきてしまいましたが、実際にアウトプット、つまり自分で英文を書くことをしなければ意味がありません。絶対に、毎日でもライティングは行うこと!

 

【新谷しょうたろう(首都大学東京)TOEFLライティング8 →24点】

まずは「基本的なエッセイの書き方」を解説しているWebサイトなり参考書なりを読んで、土台を固めた方が良いと思います。エッセイの書き方は、良質な文章を真似て身につけている方もいました。良質な文章とは、オフィシャル問題集の模範解答や、先生に頂けるライティングの模範解答です。

 

【宮川ゆうき(同志社大学) TOEFLライティング 】

一番スコアが伸びやすいセクションです。笑 まずお勧めは、TOEFLの模範解答を見て、どういう文章が良いessayなのかを知る必要があります。どういうものが良いものかを理解していないと良いものは絶対書けないです。ある程度つかめてきたら、次は自分がしっくりくる型を作ります。それはnetにあるものでもなんでもいいと思います。型が決まったら、Bodyに力を一番入れて下さい。社会的要素、自分の経験を中心に、具体的な数字や詳細な例を盛り込みます。ついでに一文でもいいので、対比させる文章を加えるといいと思います。Wは型を作って慣れるまでが1段階目。具体例の盛り込み方に慣れるまでが2段階目。いろいろと形になってきてから改めて論理はしっかりしているか、ミスはないか等の細かい部分が3段階目だと思います。

 

【園部あつし, TOEFLライティング→27点】

ライティングはTOEFLの4セクションの中で最も点数を短期間で上げやすいと言われています。なので、誰もが高得点をとり、得点源にしたいところだと思います。僕が思うに、一番大事なのはどんなものが良いエッセイなのか、を理解することだと思います。自分の書いたエッセイが良いのか悪いのか、修正点があるのであればそれはどこなのか、などがわからない状態が続いてはいけません。サンプルを解析しいいエッセイを学び、書き方は難しくなくていいので自分の型を作りながら精進していきましょう。最初は文字数などもひとつの壁ですが、これは慣れの要素が大きいです。根気強く頑張りましょう。

 

【ライティング勉強法C】 時間感覚の養成

ライティングは時間制限があり、

求められているのは「30分でエッセイを書く」という能力です。

時間を無視してしまって完成させても意味はありません。

普段から30分を徹底し、時間はきちんと守ってください。

30分しかないので、

思いつく理想のエッセイが書けるかどうかはわかりません。

情報の取捨選択をしいかに時間内で最高のものがつくれるかに固執しましょう。

 

ロジックは重要で、

いきなり書き始めてもずれが発見ても後で修正するのは大変です。

時間がもったいないと感じるかもしれませんが、

最初はロジックの構成を考える時間を取り(3~5分)

、出来上がってから書き始めましょう。

 

書き上げた後も見直しは必ず行って下さい(5分)

余計な情報を消したり、

必要な言葉を足したり、スペル、時制、三人称などを修正します。

これをするとしないでは大きく点数も異なるので、

ある程度のところでライティング作業を終え見直しに切り替えてください。
